2005
COMMENTARY BY THE CUBAN
ASSASSIN & FANTASY
Thanks for taking time out of
your schedule to check in with us to read our
articles. If your life is anything like ours, we
are amazed and appreciative that you even find
the time to do so and hope you enjoy them.
First let us tell you what is
going on at ourbar, Crazy Dave's Sports Bar,
located at 201 Keene Rd, in Largo, only a Block
North of East Bay. This Friday, March 4, we not
only have Karaoke from 8:30 to 12:30, but also a
big party with Free Food and lots of fun. We
would love to see some of you guys come out and
have a good time with us and get up there and
sing, like Bruce and Rod did the last time. You
never know who will show up. Then Friday 11,
starting at 8 PM, we have a 9 Ball Tournament
and on Friday March 18, we have Live Music. The
Heritage Band is coming back and they are really
awesome. If you haven't already done so, you got
to check them out. Oh, and I almost forgot,
every Tuesday from 6 to midnight we have 75 cent
draft beer. If you need directions or have other
questions you can email us or call
727-531-5518.
Now let's talk about
Wrestling. This coming Saturday March 5, me and
Fantasy will be in MacLenny Florida, were I will
be wrestling none other than Dory Funk Jr.. I am
looking forward to the match, since I still have
a score left to settle with Dory. The last time
I wrestled him, was many years ago, in a 6 man
elimination match. After 15 minutes, only me and
Dory were left standing in the ring. The match
lasted the entire Florida Championship TV Hour
and ended in a draw. It was the first and only
time, that one match lasted the entire show. It
is something I have never forgotten and I am
glad for the opportunity to finish what was
started so many years ago.
Sometime in the month of
March, there is a good chance that you will see
us wrestle in Orlando as well. I can't tell you
any details, but Wrestling with a connection to
Orlando? Yeah, your assumption is probably
correct. Also towards the end of March or
beginning of April, we will be going back to
Portland, Oregon for a show or two.
On April 8, I am teaming with
Shane Douglas, with Fantasy in our corner of
course, to take on Median and Navy Seal and
afterwards we are having a party at the bar. But
we will let you know all the details as it gets
closer to the date.
We are also in touch with
some people that are promoting some shows in
Germany and hope to get on the tour. Especially
since Fantasy speaks German, Czech, Swiss, and
some Spanish. We will see what happens there,
you all know how the wrestling business is. Very
unpredictable. But regardless of that, we hope
to see you at the matches or at Crazy Dave's
Sports Bar. By the way, we are looking for Live
Entertainment for the bar. So if you are part of
or know anyone, that plays in a small band and
is looking for a place to play. We would love to
hear from you. Sorry, but that's it for today,
we got to run, so take care and thanks for
checking in with us. Talk to you
soon.
OCTOBER 19,
2004
COMMENTARY BY THE CUBAN
ASSASSIN &
FANTASY
We can't believe that its
this late in the year already. Were has the time
gone? Before you now it, another month or two
have gone by. And once again, in just a few days
we are leaving to Portland Oregon, for a big
Lucha Libre Extravaganza in Woodburn, courtesy
of La Pantera Radio Station and none other than
the Grappler. The show will take place on
October 23, at the Highschool. And with the line
up being offered, we are expecting a sell out
crowd.
It is funny how things work
out and how they come full circle. Back in the
days, the Portland territory was the place of
some of my most challenging experiences. And now
it's happening again. Just look at what has been
going on recently. Faced with Rowdy Roddy Piper
in Salem, brutal matches with LaParka, 20 to 30
min marathons with Scotty Mac, and a flare up of
my feud with Pierroth, just to name a few.
And now, I have to face one
of the most accomplished wrestlers out of
Mexico. Atlantis. In a hair vs. mask match on
top of that. Luckily Fantasy will be in my
corner, but Atlantis already made a statement,
that he has been warned by LaParka and he has a
surprise for Fantasy. Some other girl will be in
his corner and supposedly she will keep Fantasy
in line. Good luck with that. Fantasy is
bringing her special purse. It's not that easy
to keep her in line. Believe me I
know.
But in all seriousness, even
if you are not Mexican, but live within driving
distance to Woodburn, OR, you won't want to miss
this show. There is nothing like a live Lucha
show, especially with this line up. There will
be many other Mexican superstars, like Villano
3, 4 and 5, Scorpio Jr., Hector Garza, Blue
Demon Jr., and Pentagon Black. A Captains match
is also scheduled for that night and the local
favorite Jesse Jr. will also get in the ring.
Like we said, this will be a night to remember.
The night after Woodburn, we will be in Tacoma,
WA for another special event.
Otherwise things have been
going well for us. Between Wrestling and Crazy
Dave's Sports Bar in Largo, we keep pretty busy.
This week, we stopped by Universal Studios to
check out NWA TNA and we have to say that we
were pleasantly surprised. The set up was great
and every one was very professional. We met with
Jerry Jarrett, Jeff Jarretts father. And even
though nothing has been confirmed yet, you never
know what will happen in the future. Maybe an
appearance by the Cuban Assassin and Fantasy.
After all, as we have proven many times over,
the Latin Market is huge, and we know how to get
the fans going and how to get ratings. And as
innovative as TNA has proven to be, they surely
recognize that as well.
Bottom line is, that we think
NWA TNA is a company here to stay and that is a
good thing. Competition is an integral part of
business. And something that has been lacking
for too long. Speaking of the Latin market.
There is a lot going on in WWC in Puerto Rico.
And just because we haven't been there for a
while, doesn't mean we don't keep up with
current events or that we have forgotten the
great Puerto Rican fans. In fact I would say,
that before this year is over, you will see us
back on the island. Back to make an
impact.
And speaking of making an
impact. We want to congratulate Carlito,
Caribbean Cool on his recent success. To win a
title on your first time out, now that is
pretty, how could I say, cool. Even though we
are on the other side of the fence, we admire
his skills and achievements. And are really
proud, that he has made it this far. Despite the
fact that a lot of people didn't want him to and
didn't believe he would or could. We know that
sometimes you got to do what you got to do, to
get were you are going. especially when you are
first starting out and a lot of people are
jealous. And make no mistake he is just getting
started in WWE. Maybe all these times he has
watched me wrestle, or faced me in the ring, he
has paid attention and learned a thing or two. I
am not saying that bragging or anything, because
I know they have taught him a lot in WWE , but
because I see a lot of myself in him. The only
thing I do regret seeing is, that Carlito has
turned against his family. But then again, he is
still young and hasn't figured out, that there
is nothing more important than
family.
But the Pacific Northwest and
Puerto Rico aren't the only places that have
been happening. NWA Florida has been making a
strong come back, and is putting on better shows
than ever. check them out if you can on October
30th in Brandon or Nov. 4th in Ybor City. It
will be worth your time.
It seems that wrestling is
making a come back from the little slump it has
been in recently. In fact, we are in
negotiations with several casinos that are
interested in doing some wrestling shows, as
well as a promotion out of Italy. Most of you
might not know this, but we have promoted a few
shows as Coast To Coast Promotions in the past,
and might very well do so again in the near
future. There a lot of good things in the works
and even if only half of them will work out, it
might rattle some cages. But that be the life of
a wrestler and promoter. Only time will
tell.
Also, I am happy to say that
our website is up and running. We don't have all
the merchandise available posted yet, but we do
have a bunch of tapes for sale and if you are
interested just drop us a line. We got it all
from the good old Oregon days, to more current
stuff. So hope you enjoyed our latest update and
we will see you at the
matches.
SEPTEMBER
24, 2004
COMMENTARY BY THE
CUBAN ASSASSIN &
FANTASY
We just wanted to touch base
with all the wrestling fans out there, and let
everyone know what we have been up to. We have a
lot to be grateful for, because even though
living in Florida has been anything but paradise
in the last few weeks, we have been very lucky.
So far anyway. Our house is still standing and
the worst that happened to us during Frances,
was getting stuck in Dallas on the way back from
Portland and we realize that not everyone was so
lucky. Unfortunately we are not out of the woods
yet and I hope that my words won't come back to
haunt us in the form of
Ivan.
Our trip to Oregon went very
well, except for being 3000 miles away from
home, and not knowing what would happen during a
major disaster, but such is the life of a
professional wrestler. The show must go on. The
only person that couldn't make it to the big
fair show was Hacksaw Jim Duggan. He lives in
Florida and did not want to leave his family
alone during the storm. Now I can understand and
appreciate his commitment to his family, and it
is admirable that he puts them first, but I
believe, that deep down inside, he was also
relieved to have an excuse not to have to face
me in the ring. Be it as it may, it did not turn
out to be a good thing.
When they announced that
Hacksaw would not be there the fans were
disappointed, and since it has been a while
since Roddy Rody Piper wrestled, no one expected
it to happen in Salem, least of all me, but
after some prodding, some of it (admittedly)
from us, Rowdy Roddy Piper stepped up to the
plate and the fans went
wild.
The match might not have been
real long, (even though you would be surprised
at how long 7 or 8 minutes seem when you are
going balls to the wall with Hot Rod) but it
sure as hell was intense. We brawled inside the
ring and out and Piper gave as good as he got. I
have to admit that he still has some fire under
that skirt. After busting me open and using
illegal objects on me (like a chair he got from
a fan), Roddy managed to get the flag from the
pole and there was nothing me or Fantasy could
do. Now I can forgive him for cheating, and I
can forgive him for leaving me a bloody mess,
but I cannot forgive him for putting his hands
on Fantasy. Yes, he did can you imagine? In fact
it was even worse than that, he put his filthy
lips on her, and that I can't and won't forget
nor forgive. So Piper you and me are not done
yet and sooner or later we will meet again.
Raven took on Dr. Luther and
they tore up that ring, The Grappler teaming
with Moon Dog Moretti faced Terry Taylor and
Scotty Mac, the Villanos also had a great match
against Skag Rawlins and Ladies Choice, Jesse
Jr., on Mosco in a good lucha match. All in all
it was a good night of wrestling, even though
the fair people insisted that the matches be
over with early and they over priced the tickets
in my estimation. You had to pay to get in the
fair, which is not cheap, plus parking and then
pay another $20 to see the wrestling. And even
though the card was worth it, in today's economy
a lot of people don't have that kind of money to
spend. If you don't believe me, just ask Vince.
So we did not have as many people as we would
have liked, but the 800 or so fans in attendance
did have a good time and that is all that
matters.
We also wanted to thank NWA
Florida for making the Hurricane Relief Party at
Crazy Dave's Sports Bar a few weeks ago, a big
success and we are glad to see that they are
back in action. Surely the fans are to. I think
the next show will be held in Brandon on
September 18th and we will hope to see everyone
there.
We are looking forward to
seeing the Puerto Rican wrestling fans in the
very near future, as well, maybe even as soon as
September. It has been a while and we sure have
missed them. We hear that a lot is going on in
WWC and it is time that Fidel and Fantasy make a
come back there. There will be another lucha
libre show in Woodburn, OR October 23rd, with
many Mexican superstars and as soon as we have
more details we will let you know.
Our website is up and
running, we still don't have the merchandise
sections finished, but if there is anything you
want, we are only an email away. So check it
out, and let us know what you think. We hope you
enjoyed our short article, but we got to get
caught up on a few things and Crazy Dave's
Sports Bar awaits. Thanks for checking in and we
will see you at the
matches.

COMMENTARY BY THE CUBAN
ASSASSIN &
FANTASY
The other day Cuban said to
me "I think we are due for a new column." I
looked at him and said, " It hasn't been that
long, has it?" Then we checked it and realized
that almost two months had gone by. Wow. He was
right and that doesn't happen too often.
Time sure does fly when you
are having fun, or working your ass
off.
Our new business, Crazy
Dave's Sports Bar, is going quite well. However,
as with any business it can be challenging and
quite time consuming. But we love it. This may
be a good opportunity to say thanks to all the
wrestlers, fans and friends that have come by,
to spend some fun filled hours with us, and show
their support. As for the rest of you, well the
door is always open and we hope to see you there
soon. I am sure that another opportunity, to
join us there for one of those infamous NWA
Florida parties is just around the corner. But
let me fill you in on what else we have been
doing and the special events we have coming up.
On July 21st, we did a benefits appearance at
the Friends and Family Support Center in St.
Petersburg, which is a support group for
handicapped children. We want to thank Navy
Seal, who took time out of his busy schedule to
accompany us, as well as numerous other NWA
Florida Superstars for their interest in the
event.
So many people always ask us,
isn't it hard to go do something like that? But
to tell you the truth, it makes us feel good to
see how happy these kids are just to see us and
spend some time with us. How could you feel bad
about that? Besides it is a very realistic
reminder that no matter how hard things can get
at times and no matter how many personal
challenges you are faced with, you should
appreciate what you have and focus on the
positive things in life. Easier said than done?
Don't I know it, but it never hurts to get
reminded.
This past Saturday, July
23rd, FIP presented, approx. 800 screaming fans,
with a hell of a show in Arcadia at the Turner
Civic Center. Fidel Sierra along with the Korean
Giant Ryze, wrestled Dustin Rhodes and Barry
Windham. That match not only brought down the
house, but brought along with it, a lot of
memories for Cuban and the fans
alike.
As someone who has been in
the business for some time now, yet has also
remained a fan, I don't mind telling you, that I
love seeing Cuban in the ring with experienced
and seasoned wrestlers like Dustin Rhodes and
Barry Windham. It is clearly a whole different
ball game when they get in there. I know it,
they know it and the fans know it as well. Not
only are the matches more intense and
meaningful, but the fan response is tremendous.
I just wish I could experience that more often.
And I really think that it is time for the
promoters to wake up and realize that the Cuban
gimmick is timeless and Fidel Sierra the Cuban
Assassin is a master of his game, with an
impressive ring presence and lots of talent.
Yeah, he may have a few years of experience on
him, but if you really pay attention to the fans
and their reaction, you realize that it is not
all about flipping and flopping around in the
ring. Hey don't get me wrong, I enjoy a good
match like that too, and respect their athletic
abilities, but there is just something about old
school and I think more and more promoters are
slowly starting to wake up to that. So forget
the politics and give the fans what they want.
Some of the other matches
that night were, Scoot Andrews against Chris
Candido. The Fallen Angel Christopher Daniels vs
Jerry Lynn, with the main event of the evening
being the legendary American Dream Dusty Rhodes
taking on Gangrel with Luna in his corner. It
was great seeing Dusty in action live and in
color and believe it or not, he still looks the
same. He still got the moves, walks the walk and
talks that talk. The fans definitely got their
moneys worth and more at this show, because
there were plenty of other good matches on that
card, too many in fact to list them all.
On August 7th, we will be
back in Valdosta for Spine Buster Wrestling,
they have another tremendous card lined up for
the fans and if you live anywhere within driving
distance you don't want to miss this one. If you
want more details on the line up, you can go to
spinebusterchampionshipwrestling.com.
We also have some awesome
news for the wrestling fans in Oregon. On
September 3rd, at the Salem State Fair Fidel
Sierra, with Fantasy in his corner of course,
will take on Hacksaw Jim Duggan in a Cuba vs USA
Flag match. It has been quite a while since
Fidel faced Hacksaw in the ring, but whenever
they do, forces collide and the fans go wild.
Naturally, the promoters had
to give Hacksaw the advantage by assigning none
other than ROWDY RODDY PIPER as the special
referee for that match. We tried stopping it,
but the contracts were all signed before we had
a chance to do anything about it. To make
matters worse, Roddy is already making
derogatory comments on Portland Wrestling about
Cuban and myself. He better watch out, and show
the proper respect or else he might meet our
destructive friend, the Cuban flag. Also already
signed are Raven, Terry Taylor, the Villanos 4
and 5, the Grappler, and Dr. Luther. As soon as
we have further information we will make it
available to everyone. Don't forget the date,
because it will be a night to
remember.
Now lucha libre fans, don't
worry, there will be something coming up for you
as well in the near future. Lucha Libre de
Oregon is in the process of securing a building
for their next extravaganza. As soon as we have
any info as to the locale and the date, we will
let you know immediately. It is just a matter of
time, before you will get to see all your
favorite Mexican superstars again live and in
color. Portland Wrestling will be back live at
the Kliever Armory on August 14th. Wrestling the
way it should be. And if negotiations go as
expected you will see us back there, doing what
we do best. Stirring things up.
Now we are taking quite a
leap, from the Pacific Northwest to the island
of enchantment, Puerto Rico. We have heard that
there is a lot going on in WWC, things have been
heating up and a lot has been happening. We feel
a real itch coming on to mix it up with the
likes of Bronco and his crew, so keep your eyes
open, because you never know when we will show
up. Maybe when you least expect us. We do miss
all the great fans there and surely we will see
you in the very near future. September 4th, NWA
Florida has their first show at the new venue in
Clearwater. Unfortunately we will be in Oregon
on that date, but we still urge you to come
enjoy the best wrestling around and support the
NWA Florida superstars.
Well, that is about it for
today, hope you have enjoyed checking in with
us, but before you go, I want to alert you to a
special article that will come out next month. I
have been thinking about this subject for some
time and finally decided to go ahead with it. It
will be a bit controversial and seriously
express our thoughts on what is happening with
wrestling, what we feel is wrong with it, what
we like about it and so on. I don't have the
specifics because it is not finished yet, but
one thing I can promise you is, that it will be
heavy. The rest you will just have to see for
yourselves. If you have any comments please feel
free to email us, even though our website is
still under construction for another couple of
weeks, our email is working. So take care and we
hope to see you at the
matches.

COMMENTARY BY THE CUBAN
ASSASSIN
This Friday, April 16th,
there will be a Meet and Greet with the NWA
Florida wrestlers, at our new bar, Crazy Dave's
Sports Bar, located at 201 Keene Rd in Largo.
The fun will start at 8 p.m. until closing time.
We will also have dollar draft specials and free
pool starting at nine o'clock. The NWA Florida
guys will have some merchandise and ticket give
away's as well as great stuff for sale.
On April 17th, NWA Florida
has another exciting wrestling event scheduled
for the lucky fans in Brandon and surrounding
area. All your favorite superstars will be
there, so make sure you are too. There is
nothing like a live NWA Florida Show. On April
29th, NWA Florida and Fidel, Fantasy will be in
New Port Richey at the Fat Cat Night Club. Bell
time is nine PM. On May 1st, NWA Florida will be
right back in Brandon for the Rage in a Cage 6
Extravaganza. It is their version of
Wrestlemania and for more details go to the
NWAFLORIDA.com website, were you will also find
information about the Jeff Peterson Memorial Cup
scheduled for June. Needless to say the Cuban
heavyweight champion and fantasy will be there
as well, doing what they do best.
Now let's talk about our last
trip to Oregon, were we taped several more hours
of Portland Wrestling for Comcast Television.
Top Gun, who has made a come back in recent
months, won the Pacific Northwest Heavyweight
Championship Title from Scotty Mac. He has held
that particular title 14 times during his
career, but is particularly proud of his win
this time around. To hold this prestigious title
again, is an exhilarating feeling and brings
back a lot of memories.
If you are fortunate enough
to live in an area were you can watch Comcast
TV, make sure you tune in to Portland wrestling.
There are a lot of interesting feuds going on
and the action is ferocious. But as exciting the
action may be on TV, it has always been my
standpoint that there is nothing like attending
a life show and in May fans will have that
opportunity, because Portland Wrestling will be
on the road.
Friday, May 21st in Eugene
Oregon, Lane County Fair Grounds, starting at 7
PM. On Saturday, May 22nd in Portland Oregon at
the Cleaver Armory at 5 PM, and on Sunday, May
23, in Salem Oregon at the Mc Caey High School
starting at 3pm. The main events at those shows
will be a Roman Gladiator Death Match that will
take place in a cage with the boot on a pole
with the Grappler taking on Moondog Moretti. For
the Pacific Northwest Heavyweight Title, Fidel
Sierra with Fantasy in his corner will be facing
Scotty Mac. The Northwest Tag Team Titles will
also be on the line. L.C. and Skagg are facing
Dr. Luther the leader of AOD and Black Dragon.
There will be also many other superstars in
attendance as well as the former super 8
combatant and winner Scoot Andrews, who has his
eyes on Tony Kozina.
On may 20th the Lucha Libre
de Oregon fans are in for a treat, because Lucha
libre is returning to the Woodburn Armory for
another big Univision TV taping. Now last time
we told you that the show would air on Univision
starting April 17th, that has been changed to
April 24th, and will show from 10 to 10-:30 or
10:30 to 11 am. I am not sure on that, so check
your listings. Anyway, some of the main events
for the live show will be Fidel Sierra the Cuban
Assassin with his "well loved" manager Fantasy
taking on the Grappler in a Steel Cage Match.
The TV title will be defended by Gato against
Mosco, Jesse, Jr., will take on LaBestia. Now
this is just a sample of the many great matches
happening that night. All your favorite Latin
Lucha libre stars will also be in
attendance.
On April 24 & 25, at
Tito's gym at 10 a.m. Portland Wrestling is
holding their first try outs. Tito's gym is
located at 346 Southwest Walnut, Hillsboro
Oregon 97123. If you need more information than
that, you can call 503 640-0215. The legendary
Grappler himself will be in charge of these try
outs. You couldn't be in better hands than that
and if you got what it takes, you might end up
on Portland Wrestling and Comcast Television or
even Lucha Libre De Oregon on Univision or even
Puerto Rico. So get over there and don't wait
for no formal invitation. It is time to show
what you got
And speaking of Puerto Rico,
we have not forgotten the great fans there, we
are still looking forward to a return to WWC in
the near future. At this time we have been busy
due to Fidel's new goal to try and obtain once
more all the important titles that he has held
in the past. He is making good progress and in
order to fulfill that goal, he will have to
return to Puerto Rico. All in time.
But just because we have been
busy, don't think that we have not been keeping
an eye on what has been happening in Puerto Rico
and we have been known to make an appearance
when least expected. So that's it for today,
hope you enjoyed our update and we will either
see you at Crazy Dave's Sports Bar or at the
matches.

COMMENTARY BY THE CUBAN
ASSASSIN
The last month has been a
very busy and eventful. Between our new bar and
our trip to Oregon, we have not had a minute to
spare. So we figured that since we just got back
yesterday, we better take the time to write a
new column before we get sucked back into the
thick of things. Before I tell you all about our
trip, I want to talk about a few upcoming
events. This Friday, May 28, will be a NWA
Florida Count Down Party at Crazy Dave's Sports
Bar, located at 201 Keene Rd in Largo. One Block
north of East Bay.
This is your opportunity to
party for a good cause. Imagine that, as if you
needed an excuse, but anyway. It is a count down
to the Jeff Peterson Memorial Cup and we will
have a lot of great drink and food specials (we
added some awesome devil crabs and stuffed
potatoes to our menu), free pool starting 10 PM
and tons of great prizes that will be raffled
off all night long, as well as a 50/50 raffle,
merchandise and tickets will also be for sale at
advanced ticket prices.
All the proceeds from that
will go to benefit the Cop's N Kids program,
Moffit Cancer and Hospice. So come join the NWA
Florida Wrestlers for this special cause and
let's remember Jeff the way he would have wanted
us to. By having lots of fun. The Jeff Peterson
Memorial Cup shows will be held on Friday, June
4th at the Brandon All star and two shows on
Saturday, June 5 at the St. Petersburg Armory.
For more details you can go to the NWA Florida
site. You won't want to miss this huge event, as
there will be a lot of other great stars from
all over the United States.
Now, let's talk about our
trip. It was very successful but also very
tiring. People just don't realize how much being
on the road takes out of you, especially when
you don't have time to recuperate when you get
back. But who am I kidding, we love it and it is
an important part of who we are and our lifes.
Even though there is no place like home, you
have to be able to leave that home in order to
truly appreciate it.
But I am getting side
tracked. We were on that 6:30 am flight, which
means that we had to be up and around at 3 am to
make it to the airport in time. We barely got
two hours of sleep after getting home late from
Crazy Dave's Sports Bar the night before. When
we got to Oregon, it was only noon their time,
yet it seemed like we had already been up for an
entire day. With no rest in site we took care of
some business and proceeded to do a radio
appearance on the La Pantera Radio station in
Woodburn, OR. After we'd finally taken care of
all business, we spent the rest of the night
with good friends of ours. The next day was more
of the same, except we got to sleep a little
later than 3 a.m. On Thursday we were off to
Woodburn for the Lucha Libre de Oregon TV
taping. The show has been on the air on
Univision in Oregon for several weeks and has
been a big success and it is getting hotter and
hotter. In fact there will be another big TV
taping on June 18th in
Woodburn.
I have to admit that the
Mexican fans really got behind the Grappler --
excuse me El Grappler -- when he faced Fidel in
the cage. Maybe it was his "Mexico es numero
uno" saying or the fact that he had Jesse, Jr.,
in his corner to keep an eye on Fantasy, but
regardless of what got him over with the fans,
they were there for every kick and punch and
they couldn't get enough of the blood bath that
this classic match turned out to be. The
Captains match between Aguila de Mysterio,
Jesse, Jr., and Mosco taking on Gato, La Bestia
and another Mexican wrestlers whose name I can't
remember was a huge hit with the Mexican fans.
What would a Lucha show be without a Captains
match, I ask you? Chico Glamoroso Skag Rollins
made his debut that night, but his charm was
lost on the Mexican fans. Gato successfully
defended his TV Title against Mosco and to the
fans regret retained his championship. All in
all, it was a great night that left the fans
wanting more.
The next night Portland
Wrestling returned to Eugene Oregon for the
first time in many years. It was a great event
that will have the fans coming back for more,
the next time Portland Wrestling comes to their
neck of the woods. Even the local news made an
appearance and taped a lot of the
matches.
So there is collaboration,
when we tell you that Fidel Sierra the Cuban
Heavyweight Champion, with Fantasy by his side,
won the held up Pacific Northwest Championship
Title as well, in a grueling match against
Scotty Mac. It was a battle that lasted almost
25 minutes and we are happy to say that
experience prevailed. However, we give credit
were it is due and Scotty Mac is a hell of a
wrestler and gave Fidel a run for his money. You
got to be tough in order to last 25 minutes with
this veteran. Cause as Fidel likes to point out,
he is not just build for show but for go as well
and he can keep up with the best of
them.
And since we are giving
credit so generously, let us add that every
single match was pretty good, all right was
great, and the fans had a really good night at
the matches. Especially since, the main event of
that evening was a cage match between the
Grappler and Moondog Moretti. The special guest
announcer for that match was Barry Owens, a
promoter and son of the legendary late Don
Owens.
On Saturday, the very next
night, Portland Wrestling had a big TV taping at
the Kliever Armory. They started of the show
right, by bringing out an unexepected guest. A
voice from the past. When Don Coss, who was the
voice of Portland Wrestling, came out and
announced that he is now on the board of
Directors for Portland Wrestling, the fans went
wild. The Black Nature Boy Scoot Andrews made
his debut appearance that night as well and left
the fans with a very good impression by
defeating Vance Nevada who had Dropkick Murphy
in his corner. But then again, we wouldn't
expect nothing less of any NWA Florida wrestler.
Fidel Sierra beat Nikky Syxx and then draped the
Cuban Flag that Fantasy handed him, over Nikky's
body. There was a lot of other action that
night, but if you are lucky enough to get
Comcast in Oregon, you will just have to watch
the show and for the rest of you, sorry, can't
talk about it.
On Sunday, Portland Wrestling
had a show in Salem. The fans in attendance
would agree with me, when I say it was a great
way to spend a Sunday afternoon. Fidel had
another epic battle against Scotty Mac. One
thing about Scotty, he keeps coming back for
more. Oh well, plenty were that came from. As
you can see, it was a very busy week, but we
love what we do and hope to keep doing it for a
very long time. No matter what hardships we
face, we are very lucky to be able to do what we
truly enjoy and believe me, we know it and we
cherish it.
One of the things that was
special to me this week was the fact that I got
to see more of Oregon. In the past I have heard
a lot of stories from Fidel about the good old
Portland Wrestling days, and it makes being
there even more fun. It's like being part of
history all over again, and when he says and
here is wwere we..... I can now exactly picture
what he was talking about. And the best part
about it is, we are making some of our own
history.
One more thing before we sign
off, this Sunday May 30th, we will be in
Valdosta GA were Fidel will be teaming with Rico
Casanova against Glacier and the legendary Larry
Zbyszko. I know we sound like a broken record,
but we do want the Puerto Rican wrestling fans
to know, that no matter how busy we are and how
much fun we are having, we do miss them and will
see them on the island soon. Thanks for checking
in, hope you enjoyed our column and feel free to
email us. You will be happy to know that we have
made some progress on our brand new site and it
will be up and running soon. We still have a lot
of cool merchandise available including our new
Lucha Libre De Oregon shirts. Take care and see
you at the
matches.
